The CPT is a career preference measure that is based on a three-dimensional career preference model containing career Fields, Activities and Environments. The measure is aimed at providing individuals with a clear profile of their career-related preferences in the various sub-dimensions of the broader Field, Activity and Environment dimensions encapsulated in the CPT model.

  • Individuals are more likely to enjoy opportunities that are aligned with their personal preferences and for this reason assessment information about individual preferences can be used to inform decisions at various life stages.
  • The 34 sub-dimensions of the CPT are categoriesed in Field, Activity and Environment sub- dimensions.
  • The CPT is available in six South African official languages (in alphabetical order - Afrikaans, English, Sepedi, Setswana, Xhosa and Zulu) and in six other languages (Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili). The CPT reports are at present only available in English.
  • CPT assessment results can be used to inform the making of subject choices at school level, for study and career choices for school leavers and students, for career-related decisions for adults throughout their careers.
  • The CPT is classified as a psychological test by the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa).
